Origins of the business

simplehuman is a privately owned designer and manufacturer of kitchen, bath and beauty tools. The company is based in Torrance, California, and was founded by Frank Yang, who moved to the United States from Taiwan. He began with the idea of building a better trash can. The first orders came from home goods retailers at a major housewares trade show, and the business then widened into other kitchen and bath tools with a broader name.

Sensor products across the home

Sensor technology runs through much of the range. Several trash cans open when a hand approaches, so the lid stays clean and hands stay clear. Sensor pumps dispense soap without touching the bottle, and sensor mirrors suit bath routines. Steel frame dish racks give kitchens a sturdy place to drain washing. Together these products cover the storage, cleaning and drying tasks that come up in daily kitchen and bath life.

Build and design approach

The brand combines practical shapes with a clean finish. Some trash cans come in a semi-round form that fits tight corners, while others use a slimmer profile for narrow kitchens. Metal frames on dish racks keep the design sturdy under heavy loads of crockery. The company has earned design recognition in Europe for a steel frame dish rack and a sensor can, which points to attention on function as well as look.

Where the range fits

The products are aimed at homes that want tidy kitchens and organised bathrooms. Storage pieces, dish racks and sensor fittings work together, so one household can replace several separate tools with a connected set. The company's focus on kitchen, bath and beauty items keeps the offer clear and easy to follow for people planning a home refresh.
