What is PFAS-free coating?

In short

Whether a brand states its nonstick coating contains no PFAS or PTFE.

PFAS is a broad family of substances that includes PTFE, the material most nonstick coatings are built on. A brand calling its coating PFAS-free or PTFE-free is stating that the coating contains none of them, which matters if you want to avoid the class altogether. Every pan maker in this comparison makes that claim for its nonstick range: Caraway, Great Jones, GreenPan and HexClad all state that theirs is. A claim covering one line of cookware says nothing about the other pans in your kitchen.
